Influence of activating and inhibitory killer immunoglobulin-like receptors on predisposition to recurrent miscarriages

Human Reproduction· 2009· 51 citations

A case-control study evaluating how maternal activating and inhibitory KIR gene content shapes predisposition to recurrent miscarriage.

This case-control study profiled activating and inhibitory maternal KIR genes in women with recurrent miscarriages to test whether NK-cell receptor balance influences pregnancy outcome. The analysis identified shifts in receptor content that favored activation over inhibition among affected women, implicating altered uterine NK-cell signaling in miscarriage susceptibility. These findings complemented later KIR/HLA-C interaction studies by showing that maternal receptor repertoire alone can contribute to reproductive risk.
